WHAT'S THAT DOOTING

News JULY 7, 2024

By Brian Gramolini

That was one of the crazier rounds I've played at Saxon Woods.

Round Recap

When I checked the radar Saturday morning, I thought we would get lucky. The heavy storms were north of Scarsdale and looked like they would stay there. On the third hole, I realized I was wrong. Standing on the third green, my whole group heard a low hum shortly before the skies opened up. We were lucky enough to take shelter in the woods between 3 and 4, which kept the worst of the storm off of us. It also hid us from view, and we didn't realize the course had been cleared.

Once the rain subsided, we carried on to the 4th tee. The 4th green was pretty soaked, but the rest of the course seemed playable and we saw blue skies, so on we went. Around the 7th tee, things got dark. We quickly finished 7 and rushed to the halfway house for shelter from the next downpour. This one brought more rain than the first one, but blew through quick. Once finished, we continued on.

After playing one and a half more holes, we learned the bad news. The course was shut down before the first storm (that was the hum we heard, and nobody found us in the woods). We were promptly asked to exit the course and couldn't even finish the ninth hole. An hour later, groups were back out on the course, but I had already headed home.
