2015 Memorial
The
Memorial Tournament begins next week, July 25th. This is a 2
week
competition using the Stableford system of scoring with each player
submitting their total points for both weeks. This is a full handicap
tournament, net score on each hole is used to calculate points.
A Stableford competition is a golf tournament in which the object is to get the highest score. That's because in Stableford, golfers are awarded points based on their scores in relation to a par at each hole. The USGA and R&A define Stableford points in this manner:
• Net Double Bogie (or no score returned) - 0 points
• Net Bogie - 1 point
• Net Par - 2 points
• Net Birdie (one under) - 3 points
• Net Eagle (two under) - 4 points
• Net Double Eagle (3 under) - 5 points

2014 Champion Tom Gramolini
How To Score
This year's Memorial was a two round
marathon
requiring something rarely seen at Saxon Woods: one good
round
followed by another. Most of us are capable of breaking net
par
on one Saturday, but the next is most frequently a journey to the dark
side of golfdom. This year both Andy and Tom managed to get
net
under par two weeks in a row. But Tom's second round was
three
strokes better than Andy's and that was his margin of victory.
Tom shot a wonderful gross 77/net 67 to go with last week's net 69. No matter how you count the points that's a back to back performance to be proud of. Brian has put together all the scores and you'll find links below. But we didn't have to wait until all the cards were in to congratulate Tom on that great performance. Well done, Mr. Gramolini. Tom adds this major to his 2011 President's Cup victory.
The new scoring system assigned points to each hole's score, but the principle was the same as usual: par is one better than bogie, birdie is one better than par.... In the end points produced the same results as medal play:
BrianG did a great job collecting and summarizing the Memorial results. They are in the available at the links below:
