2013 Opening Day Bramble
Well Done
The Club in
session, but not in season. Our Opening Day provided us with
the
warmth of friendships rekindled, the satisfaction of a hot grilled
burger and the glow of good group fun. But Mother Nature
added no
calories of her own. It felt far too close to closing day in
temperatures. However it was a fashion bonanza as we teed off
in
our full suits, took layers off mid-way and then quickly put
as
much back on as we could. Luckily the sun came out at the
Grill
and we all soaked up as much as possible (of the sunshine).
JF hit some amazing drives to start us off - two of the first three were on the green, but none of us was able to convert the eagle. And Charlie was showing off his irons on #4. I think the only time he lost was goofing around with a one-handed five iron. Still "You Can't Lose" was a welcome addition with Charlie taking in over $700 for the proshop.
My group won and, as the low handicapper I'd love to take credit for it, but we didn't use a single one of my drives on the front and had 4 birdies. I didn't make a putt over 3 feet and we had another 4 birdies on the back. It was a lesson in what makes this game so much fun - we can all hit great shots at one time or another. And when you get to forget the mistakes - well that's even better. My contributions were pretty average; the sparks came from Henry Mueller hitting the fairway on #5 and leaving me an 8 iron in; they came from Sanossian driving it straight down the middle and into the hazard on #13 (=birdie) and from Jim McEvoy sinking every putt he swung at - including an ultra tricky side hill slider on #11. Thanks guys. Great shots are great shots no matter who hits them. That was fun.
We teed off in the dark and played in the gray, but the camera captured some of the action. Link to the photos below.
First Place: Cook, McEvoy, Meuller, Sanossian at -7
Second Place: J Goldberg, Gramolini, Pfluger, Smith at -6
Third Place: Fricchione, Halpern, Sigona and Young also at -6 (match of cards)
Closest to Pin #4: Bruce Greenberg
Closest to Pin #7: Chris Pfluger
Closest to Pin #16: Peter Ennis
Closest to Line #10: Nick Pappas
