Partners' Best Ball Begins

Let's Play Golf

Current News & Conditions

Almost a Summer's Day.
Okay, not exactly July, but what an improvement in conditions.  Lots of us took advantage of the  clear, if cool weather to try and qualify for PBB.  Hammer was buried under 20 enthusiastic entry cards.  With three groups yet to post, it appears the cut will be even par.  He's promised the Draw will go up tomorrow.

This week we heard that Michael Santise, passed away.  Mike ran the Saxon Grill and the The Grill at Sprain Lake.  There was wake on Tuesday, 7-9 pm at Ruggiero & Sons Funeral Home in Yonkers.  Several members attended and the Club made a donation.

Next Saturday's weekly is "Replace One Hole Per Nine with Par."  Your worst hole on each side will be magically made a par.  Then your card will then be compared with all other entries and the winner determined by Medal Play scoring (total strokes) - full handicap applies .  A note on the weekly prizes - winners will be awarded Pro Shop credits.  Charlie's been great to us - it's only right that we support him.  And he gets great deals on Callaway equipment.  So save up your credits for that hot new Lamborghini-technology, carbon-titanium composite driver.  Nothing like the long ball.

On May 7, the tee times move up almost an hour.  The first time will be 5:40 - as early as it gets.  Check the Tee Times page for your group's new start.

Think Golf All Week
Here's a way to keep your golfing spirit alive on those open periods not named Saturday.

The NYTimes staff includes two of the best golf writers around:  Larry Dorman covers the PGA and Bill Pennington does a personal interest golf piece on Mondays called "On Par."  On Par is in blog format - with a main section and  commentaries (this week on long putters and walking) - and frequently includes bits on rules, equipment or swing tips.   April 18 was the first column of 2011 -  a witty welcome back that I really enjoyed.  And the 25th's was even more appropriate for us: "Early Birds Less Likely to Catch the Birdies."

I also enjoy two EMagazines that are pretty amazing visual treats.  Makes you wonder how print will survive.  Published on-line each Monday "Golf World" and "Global Golf Post" are great updates on the weekend tournament action and the game itself.

Go take a look and consider reading them every week.  Save them to your favorites.  More golf - can't hurt, right?
