A Guide to the Year

2011 Tournaments & Events will be run by your Tournament Committee (for more info see next section) and governed by the Rules Committee (bottom of this page).  Both groups will be working to see that this is the best season ever for Saxony.  Note revised dates for the Club Championship - leaving Sept 10 free for the Doherty Cup.

In case you aren't familiar with these events, here's how they work:

- In the Opening Day Scramble foursomes are organized with roughly equal total handicaps.   Best net score on each hole counts and in addition to lowest score, there are also prizes for closest to the pin and driving distance/accuracy.
- Partners' Best Ball is a team event - pick a partner and using your best net score on each hole go up against another twosome in match play.  Strategic choice of partner is key.  Two Hams just don't work as well as Ham & Eggs.
- President's Cup is one draw for the whole club.  Using handicaps you'll have to get through people of all levels in your quest for the cup.  Again, match play.
- Club Championship is open to everyone - with a catch: no handicaps.  To give the rest of us something to do while Andy wins it (again), higher handicap players can sign up for A, B, C or D flights.  There are no handicaps within a flight; it's match play, straight up.
- The Memorial is our most complicated scoring.  Everyone is assigned a point target based on his handicap - high handicappers have lower targets.  In play you earn 1 point for bogie, 2 for par, 4 for a birdie and 8 for an eagle (all scores gross).  He who exceeds his target by the biggest margin wins.  The points are accumulated over two rounds and, just in case you have a bad week, you get three chances to go low- use your best two rounds, but play hard.  Lots of sandbaggers out there (or so it seems).
- Closing Day in past was a scramble.  Similar to Opening Day, but without that wide-eyed, spring enthusiasm.  This year Andy made it a double ball event: Foursome Best Ball and Yellow Ball.   The weather can be a bit rough, so this event is for the hearty.  Usually combined with the final Saxony Club meeting and officers elections for the following year.

And remember anytime you're in the hunt for some hardware, watch out for Woody - he's hungry and THIS IS THE YEAR.

Tournament Committee

 Fall 2011
Hammer is Chairman and  Andy, Ron Sanossian and Joe Valenti are acting members or the Tournament Committee

They are looking for volunteers to run the Fall Classic. Responsibilites include communicating to members, establish pairings, determine format and awarding prizes.

Contact the Committee or Hammer below.

Rules Committee

July 31, 2010
Hammer and the  Tournament Committee are looking for people interested in contributing to a Rules Committee.  This group would be charged with defining the local rules for the club overall and, if needed, variants for any event.  They would also be available to club memebers as a panel to answer rule related questions or settle those quirky, off-course discussions.  For The Majors - the determination of the Rules Committee will be final.

Sign up below or just contact Hammer directly.
