Champions:
Eddie Ryan and James
Walsh
Final Match: Eddie Ryan / James
Walsh vs Ron Sanossian / Joe Wooley
This match
started off just as expected as another classic back and forth battle
with
neither team backing down. There were 7 lead changes in the first nine
holes with neither team leading by more than one hole. By all signs, a
great final was in the making as the teams exchanged wins on the front
nine. Eddie and James took the early lead on the first hole with a par
by Eddie. Joe and Ron bounced back with a net par by Joe on
number 2
and a par, net birdie on 3 and Joe was up to "his tricks" again so they
had their first one up lead. Matching pars on 4 resulted in the first
half of the early match but then a very impressive par on the always
tough par 4 5th, by Eddie got the match back to even. James got into
the act with a birdie on 6 that gave James and Eddie a one up lead.
They were able to hold the lead for one hole with half on 7 but Joe
came right back with a net par on 8 to square the match. But Eddie and
James came right back with another win on 9, to end the first nine one
up going into the all important back nine.
Ron and Joe showed their
toughness early on the back as they fought hard with net pars on both
10 and 11 to keep James and Eddie's lead to only one. However James
and Eddie found a way to win both 12 and 13 ( natural par on 13 by
Eddie) to go up by 3. Eddie might have had thoughts of
putting them
away with another rock solid par on the tough 14th, but Ron S. had
other ideas with a par of his own (for a net birdie) on the tough 4 par
to reduce the lead back to 2. However Eddie and James proved just how
tough they can be with back to back pars on 15 and 16 (4 straight pars
in a row by Eddie ) to seal the deal, win the match and to give Ron and
Joe their first loss in four matches.
Ron and Joe played extremely
well
throughout and should be proud of themselves. They just ran into a bit
of a "buzz saw" or more like a snake eyes artillery attack, by the
fearsome team of James and Eddie (Gunny) Ryan. Congratulations to both
teams but especially to James and Eddie for taking the first Major
Championship of this year. They really came out guns blazing and are
worthy champions in Saxony Club's first Major Victory of 2010!
