Calm Before The Storm
Aug 27th
Amid all the hype we got in a very pleasant round. Those who showed up this morning were treated to a peaceful break from the hurricane hoopla. Most of the course was shrouded in a near fog of humidity. It was almost eerie, but made it feel like a private escape. Soft greens and low cut fairways made good scores possible - I played with Levy who shot a net 62, completing his comeback from shoulder surgery.
Hammer bested a jet-lagged Gramolini in the A Flight Semis. Shearman won the B Semis on 18 vs Perlowitz. And, in a concession to the weather, both the A Finals (Burroni/Ryan) and the D Finals (Schimoler/Goldberg) were postponed until next Saturday. So we have all the flights playing finals on the same day - great fun for those that finish early. Let's get a crowd going on 18.Mike's super job on maintenance seems to have moved up yet another level. He took down a large tree between #9 & #12 - a real bonus for the long drivers who used to end up punching into the ninth green after a big boom. They've also cut out the lower branches on pines all around the course. It looks better every week.
Thanks to all who contributed commentary on last week's action. Also from last week - Charlie finished T42 in last week's Met Open at Sleepy Hollow - not bad in a field of 160. He's an excellent pro and I encourage anyone who is looking for help (or distance) to sign up for a lesson. The one I took was excellent.Note that the tee times start 20 minutes later on Labor Day than last week.
