Fall Golf is The Best

Oct 22nd

(Except for Spring Golf when any shot feels great).  That was the kind of day that makes it worthwhile to get up in the dark.  It just kept getting better.  The sun got warmer, the greens got faster and I would gladly have gone around again - except my game was stuck in "Awful".  The tale end of our season seems to have split us into two types of golfers - surgers and slumpers.  I saw a couple nice scores on the table (Gramolini shot 79), but I heard a lot more from those at the other end of the spectrum (What am I doing?  Where did my game go?).  For many of us a couple months off will do wonders to recharge the batteries and rekindle the flame.  I'm ready for a break, just not a 5 month break.

The format selected by Andy for the Fall Classic is now clear - two formats: a foursome best ball and a Yellow Ball competition - rotate holes with the yellow ball, but if you lose it you're out.  Take it from someone who's played this before - any group that makes it to 18 with their yellow ball will be in the top two.  Other details of the event are on the Fall Classic page.

The 29th is the Saturday for posting scores.  If you don't have your even par round in by then the USGA won't count it this year.  The season ends Oct 31 for New York state.  After that you get unlimited mulligans, or at least a little looser with the scorekeeping.

Next Saturday is also the final Saxony Club, er, I mean Saxony Golf Club,  meeting of the year.  The agenda will include elections, a financial report and a couple free beer.  One part of that sounds like fun.

If you haven't signed up for the Fall Classic, you can do so with the link to the right - and if you think you may have committed, but just don't remember; here's a list of the players so far (Fall Signup Sheet).

My Final Posting

Webmaster Resigns

This is my final posting as webmaster for The Saxony Club. After next week's Fall Classic I'll put down the mouse and be done.  It will be up to our new President to appoint a successor.  Hopefully one of you will be able to continue the site next year.

I've enjoyed doing this tremendously and have learned a lot about the web, golf and my limitations.  I thank you all for your comments, compliments and contributions.  It was fun.

I won't occupy your home page with my personal, probably trite reasons for leaving.  Those who wish for a longer explanation may click here , but believe me when I say we're all better off just playing golf instead of politics.

To everyone who has taken the time to stop here and spend a couple minutes - thanks for reading - hope to see you in the fairway.

Tom
