There's Still Golf Out There
And
it's pretty darn nice. In
many ways the course hasn't played better all year - the fairways are
firm and dry; the greens are hard and the fastest I've ever seen them;
but there is that little thing with the wind - it just cuts across the
1st green and 2nd/12th tees. You need to be dressed for it.
In fact, it was so chilly Saturday that Greg was spotted
wearing long pants! So those who stayed home, stayed warm.
Those of us who played hoped for a downwind drive and an
uphill putt. JF slept in this morning, so the proshop was
still dark at 7:15. Mike Belmont looked around at the 12 of
us and said "No frost. Go. Pay when you're done."
So we did. JF showed up a couple minutes later and
rang up the later groups, but again Mike showed us that he gets it.
Nice to have someone who cares about us working there.
Construction on the walkway from parking circle to pro shop continues.
This week the size of the path became clearer as they painted
edges on the practice green and started to cut out turf.
We'll lose about 10' of green - it's a broad avenue and
should really help with the traffic - still, I bet we'll see a few lost
souls trying to squeeze golf bags between tables as
they bump their way through the restaurant.
The Hawk's Nest has been found - pretty much where everyone said it
would be: left of the 15th fairway around the 100 yd marker.
Actually more visible from just in front of the 16th
tee. It looks empty now and is certainly more exposed than in
the spring. Several big trees fell in the recent storms and
that area is now quite open. Hope they return to it next
year. All three hawks were seen hunting, but with the leaves
blowing so much squirrels were hard to find. Heck, golfers
were hard to find.
If you don't have your money in for next year, better get to it.
Apparently there's a long waiting list for times
and if we don't take them, they'll be gone instantly.
Deadline for the $1,400 is end of the month. If
you're signing up under the same names as last year you don't need that
county form. Just pay in the pro shop and they'll use the
info in the computer to complete your EZ Reserve.

Winter Projects
One of Woody's first actions as President-elect was to make me an offer I couldn't refuse - so I'll be back with the website next year. But I'm going to use the winter to make changes - not sure what yet; just looking for some input.
Got any ideas for me? Anything on your wishlist for the website? How 'bout your own column - 100 words a week; observations on the golfing life. Maybe someone would like to put up a putting page, or a mental game page or an equipment swap, or.. gee I really don't know. What would you like to see? What would you be willing to do? All ideas welcome - email webmaster.
And while we're on the subject: What will you be doing with the 16 Saturdays between now and then? Need a use for all that extra weekend time? Well, there's a lot to be done for next year and some are trying to get it done over the winter.
Here are some ideas beyond the website:
Spell out the rules = volunteer for the rules committee
Got ideas for new weeklies = Gramolini, again
Any pictures of memories of great years past? Send 'em in.
Clean up the course = Belmont is looking for volunteers on days the course is closed
Anything at all to make next year more fun, better golf - please get involved.
