No Such Thing As Frost
Nov 19th
If the sun is up - Mike sends us out. It was only 38 degrees and the 18th fairway looked like a sugar-glazed crueller, but we were teeing off by 7:30. A dozen hardy souls didn't even have to wait for the scheduled start of 8 a.m.
As the day warmed up I counted over 20 Saxonites, so pretty much half the club is still out there. And enjoying it too. If you've got the right number of layers on, the course is a pleasure. Some tees are up, but for the most part it's playing better than summer conditions. Almost all the leaves are down, so the fairways are clear. The putts are rolling beautifully, a bit too fast if anything. Woe to those who putted back downhill at the front pins on #2 and #13. Next shot was a wedge. The county has really cut back on Parks & Recreation. Apparently the Golf Course budget has been reduced by 10% next year. Hard to imagine what they will be able to do without in order to save those dollars. I say they hold a fundraiser - start by selling some belgian block.
Cost per round for 2012 was posted: $35 for weekend play. Up $2 instead of the usual one buck increase. So with the +$100 for EZ Reserve and $3 per round in the last two years the effective to cost of a round a Saxon Woods has gone up $42 in 2010 to $55 in 2012: that's up 30% in a bad economy. Hate to see what they would have done if things were good. Wonder where it goes? - check out the politicians' idea of a footpath below.
Next week is the last weekend to buy the 2012 EZ Reserve slot. $1,400 by 11/31 or some very dull mornings next year.

New Ramp to the Hutch
Or So Mike Says
Mike Belmont calls it "a new entrance ramp to the Hutchinson Parkway." Woody called it a "drag strip for golf carts." But what ever it is - IT IS BIG.
The picture below is the new walking path between the bag drop and the pro shop. I guess the county is expecting a lot of traffic:
As you can see it is wide enough for an SUV. The pallets in the foreground are loaded with slate, so this is going to be a formidable passage. Not the walkway I was expecting.
We lost about eight feet of putting green and there is a line of white paint that threatens another six or eight fee at the pro shop end. Can't tell if that was to direct the initial cut, or if there is more slicing to come. Nevertheless it will be a different look come spring.
And while the new path will be impossible to miss - any one want to bet how long it takes before someone walks through the restaurant tables pulling their clubs between the tables?
