A Thanksgiving Turkey
Three Days in A Row. In bowling three consecutive strikes is called a Turkey. And that was definitely three days right down the middle and in the sweet spot. Shorts, Golf Shirts, Sunglasses. We played like we were on vacation in Florida - except for the odd bit of hoar frost coating the tall rough. With barely a breath of wind the course performed as nicely as it ever has. Okay - the wet areas were still really wet from Tuesday's downpour, but if you stayed out of the puddles you were treated to a bonus round (and maybe three). Good conditions by any standard - extraordinary by the calendar.
The greens have fully recovered from aeration and are a spring shade of green. They're loving all this extra sun and warmth as much as we are. Scotty says that barring a brutal winter, they will be in prime shape after the break. Because, much as I hate to mention it, the course will close for a while. Even without snow I heard the last day will be 12/31.Growing up in Canada we watched the Macy's Day Parade with envy. Winter had already set in and it was only a couple of weeks until the ski slopes would open. We all wished our Santa Clause could wave bare handed. Living in Chicago we saw the floats above Broadway and wondered how they stayed away from the buildings. Because outside our doors the wind howled down from the northern Rockies unblocked by any hills and golf was only for those whose ears could stand the biting pain. This Thanksgiving play was extra special for me, simply because I never done it - imagined it, before. So there's another thing to be thankful for.
Several Maple Moor players spent the weekend at Saxon - checking out the course and pumping the pro shop for openings in EZ Reserve. I was asked when the lineup would start on Dec 1 - would 3 a.m. get a spot? I took that to mean that not everyone has paid yet. You don't need a form - they have them at the course. You don't need the County Pass numbers - they have them in the system. But you do need to pay by Wed, 11/30. (I said 11/31, but Bill Levy moved it up a day on you).

New Ramp to the Hutch
Sorry - Forgot to post the photo last week - so this can stay up a little longer...Mike Belmont calls it "a new entrance ramp to the Hutchinson Parkway." Woody called it a "drag strip for golf carts." But what ever it is - IT IS BIG.
The picture below is the new walking path between the bag drop and the pro shop. I guess the county is expecting a lot of traffic:
As you can see it is wide enough for an SUV. The pallets in the foreground are loaded with slate, so this is going to be a formidable passage. Not the walkway I was expecting.
We lost about eight feet of putting green and there is a line of white paint that threatens another six or eight fee at the pro shop end. Can't tell if that was to direct the initial cut, or if there is more slicing to come. Nevertheless it will be a different look come spring.
And while the new path will be impossible to miss - any one want to bet how long it takes before someone walks through the restaurant tables pulling their clubs between the tables?
